And now for the good news
[Seven robbers slain in depot shootout]
By Alex Eliseev
Responding to a shooting in Nirvana, Polokwane, paramedics from ER24
found seven bodies scattered inside a Protea Coin cash depot - the
aftermath of a robbery gone wrong.
Hopelessly outgunned, with three pistols between them, the robbers had
been shot dead by policemen who were alerted to the robbery-in-progress
around midnight on Saturday. No police officers were killed or injured
in the confrontation.
Police spokesman Musa Zondi said members of an operational response unit
were tipped off about the robbery and sped to the scene.
The robbers, clad in gloves and balaclavas, had managed to tamper with
the depot's security system and gained entry, Zondi said,
"The police arrived and tried to get them to surrender and hand
themselves over, but they opened fire and the police responded. In the
end, all seven of them were dead."
